Dimension Data is betting big on its cloud solutions business unit. The IT services provider is consolidating its OpSource and BlueFire cloud businesses under the Dimension Data brand, and the company expects to "significantly expand" the number of employees it has in the cloud solutions business unit in 2013.

This seems like the next evolution in the continuing expansion of Dimension Data's cloud practice that has been going on all year. In February, the company launched a global cloud platform and services following the acquisition of OpSource the previous summer. Dimension Data followed that up in July with a new channel program intended to drive more of its revenue through cloud services providers.

All of these changes and additions is evidence of a strong focus on the future of its cloud solutions business. With one consistent brand instead of three, the IT services provider has a stronger message for both customers and the cloud services provider partners it is currently forging relationships with.

"By rebranding OpSource and BlueFire to Dimension Data, we will be able to leverage our collective experience, and our Managed Cloud Platform (MCP), CloudControl cloud management system, and public and private cloud service offerings, to execute complex, multi-national cloud projects," said Steve Nola, CEO of Dimension Data's cloud solutions business unit.

This month, the company will also be launching a new cloud services website that will enable its customers to purchase cloud computing resources on demand. When it goes live, it will support the self-provisioning of cloud computing, storage and networking infrastructure. Dimension Data has plans to roll it out to the United States, Netherlands, Australia and South Africa immediately and Hong Kong shortly thereafter.

If all goes well, the new cloud services website and the consolidation of its cloud brands into one could position Dimension Data to become a stronger player in the cloud market.
