CipherCloud Connect AnyApp Encrypts Public, Private Clouds

Encryption vendor CipherCloud is launching CipherCloud Connect AnyApp, a new product that encrypts data on SaaS, IaaS, PaaS and other cloud-based applications -- data that's in transit, in use and at rest in both private and public cloud environments. According to CipherCloud, its new application makes it easier for enterprises to deploy encryption or tokenization within hours to give a boost to their cloud security.

The company partners with service providers including Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) Web Services and Box, as well as systems integrators, to take its products to market. Although security isn't quite the hot cloud topic it was a couple of years ago, data breaches aren't exactly unheard of. Some businesses are still wary of the cloud, and security solutions that aim to protect and encrypt data will toward eventually making cloud services a more viable choice for business-critical and mission-critical applications.

Using CipherCloud Connect AnyApp, partners can help customers secure any intranet form, custom-developed web application or vertical SaaS application using encryption or tokenization. According to the company, it's a simple process:

• Install CipherCloud virtual appliance. It automatically generates an organization's encryption keys.


• Specify URLs of the public and private cloud applications to be encrypted.


• Use the point-and-click interface to create policies to encrypt or tokenize one or more fields.

Connect AnyApp is meant to automatically encrypt or tokenize data and web applications once the policy is enabled.

CipherCloud is looking ahead to what it perceives as a potential for major breaches.

"By 2015, more than 70 percent of organizations could still be prone to data breaches of centrally stored private data in North America and Europe," said Lawrence Pingree, research director at Gartner, in a prepared statement. "Cloud encryption gateways that can be configured to encrypt or tokenize data are needed to reduce this risk and allow businesses and governments to go beyond the firewall and adopt public and private clouds applications."
