If you watch Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG) business strategy closely, it's clear the search giant wants the Google Apps-Chrome combination to put the squeeze on Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) emerging Windows Server 2012-Windows 8-Office 2013 initiatives.

The latest anecdotal evidence: Google Apps for Business, Education and Government customers can now receive phone and email support for Chrome. Indeed, Apps customers running Chrome can now get "support on Chrome installation, functionality, security, browser policy settings and Google Apps interoperability for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux."

Many high-volume Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) and SaaS companies lack decent phone support options. But the times are changing. Both Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) and Google have been bolstering their support -- potentially following the lead of Rackspace (NASDAQ: RAX), which offers Fanatical Support.

Perhaps I'm giving Google too much credit for adding email and phone support for Chrome. But I suspect it's all part of a bigger plan -- a much bigger plan -- to accelerate the business shift from client-server applications to cloud services and SaaS.
