Dell plans to work with Microsoft and Google to drive sales of Windows Azure and Google Cloud Platform services through its channel partners.
Dell seems to have big plans for pushing public cloud services through its channel partners. The company has signed deals with both Microsoft (MSFT) and Google (GOOG) to deliver Windows Azure and Google Cloud Platform through its network of global channel partners.
Both deals won't kick off immediately, but will begin sometime in 2014. Based on the agreements, Dell will provide Windows Azure and Google Cloud Platform services through its Dell Cloud Partner Program, providing some additional assurance the company will continue to embrace the channel go-to-market model for the cloud even as it undergoes corporate changes.
"At the heart of Dell's cloud strategy are customer choice and flexibility, the underlying reasons driving our continued expansion of the Dell Cloud Partner Program and our open, scalable cloud solutions and services across Dell," said Nnamdi Orakwue, vice president of Dell Software Strategy for Operations and Cloud, in a prepared statement. "The evolution of our Windows Azure alliance combined with Dell's end-to-end solutions, services and support will help Dell customers globally truly reap the benefits of cloud to achieve tangible business results.
Regarding the deal with Google, Orakwue added, "Putting the power of cloud in our customers' hands—and giving them the choice and flexibility to pursue the right cloud for their unique needs—will not only help individual businesses thrive, but collectively it will drive the whole technology industry forward to a new era of innovation."
For Dell, this makes it even more significant in the continuously growing cloud market. For Dell's partners, this provides them with more opportunity to offer end customers additional choices when it comes to cloud services providers. That seems like a good thing for both Dell and its partners.
And Dell plans to follow up on the cloud services with support and add-on services to help support its channel and its end customers.
