A partnership between CipherCloud and Box will provide additional security controls to users of the content collaboration platform.
CipherCloud is extending its data privacy, residency, security and regulatory controls to Box. The company's data loss prevention solution will provide the ability to scan, detect and take action to protect sensitive organizational information for an additional level of security for business collaboration and content sharing on Box.
Although not particularly aimed at any vertical, CipherCloud noted certain verticals–namely, financial services, healthcare, ecommerce and technology sectors–will benefit from the new collaboration security features for Box. Those and other verticals will be able to leverage the new cloud solution to meet industry compliance standards including GLBA, PCI, HIPAA, HITECH, PIPEDA, ITAR and EU Data Protection.
"With this, they are now able to control the information going to the cloud, including Box," said Pravin Kothari, founder and CEO of CipherCloud.
This is basically another strategic function for CipherCloud, as it already supports through its data loss prevention engine McAfee, RSA and other security platforms. According to Kothari, enterprises are struggling with the inability to see information they store in the cloud. At the same time, enterprises want to be able to leverage the data loss prevention policies they have defined over the years. Kothari said that's what CipherCloud is aiming for—to provide enterprises to leverage those existing policies using cloud-based collaboration tools such as Box.
"If you look at cloud clients, people are downloading on mobile and laptops, and they are not allowing anyone to look at the traffic," Kothari explained.
CipherCloud hopes to change that. Part of the strength of its solution is single sign-on capabilities—a hot topic lately as businesses shift more and more to a variety of public and private cloud services, in addition to traditional IT infrastructure. CipherCloud's goal is to scan information going to the cloud and ensure the protection of sensitive corporate information.
"Because of the customer demand, market demand is high, we are releasing this solution with ... prevention, as per customer request," Kothari said. Next up is encryption features that will help to protect customer data even further, but the timeline for such features is unknown.
