Xeround and Joyent have partnered to make Xeround’s MySQL-based FREE edition available on the Joyent cloud, with the goal of providing a simple and elastic cloud database.

Designed for “real-time, high performance applications,” Joyent Cloud delivers public and private cloud software and services to web applications such as LinkedIn, Voxer, Gilt Groupe and TaskRabbit.

Xeround is offering its Xeround FREE edition on the Joyent Cloud, and additional offerings are scheduled for the coming months. According to the press release, Xeround Cloud Database is the only free relational database currently available to Joyent customers, and provides “zero-management experience and seamless high availability for MySQL in the cloud- all in a simple database-as-a-service.”

“We are more than pleased to be joining forces with Joyent,” said Razi Sharir, CEO of Xeround, in a prepared statement. “With the same core focuses on scalability and reliability as Joyent, our integration with them takes us further to brining a simple and truly elastic cloud database to more and more users worldwide.”

Last month Xeround announced the availability of its database-as-a-service for MySQL applications on the AppHarbor .NET platform and AppFog’s PHP Fog PHP platform, providing developers, according to the press release, with a “zero-management, highly available and scalable cloud database solution in just one click.”

In February Joyent extended its API and management to the enStratus cloud management platform, with the goal of enabling administrators and developers to orchestrate and automate architectures, even across multiple clouds. Users on the enStratus platform are able to launch and deploy services on the Joyent Cloud, gaining deeper monitoring and the ability to enforce policy for resource utilization and cost management.
