Following this week's announcement about the general availability of Microsoft Azure Government, Barracuda Networks launched its Web Application Firewall and NG Firewall on the cloud infrastructure's image gallery.
Such cloud-based security applications will likely be of interest to at least some government agencies and departments. The two Barracuda offerings break down like this:
- Barracuda Web Application Firewall provides advanced threat protection, automated provisioning and configuration, and Azure Active Directory integration for customers deploying applications on Azure Government. Its list price starts at $5,199.
- Barracuda NG Firewall provides "next-generation" firewall capabilities and high-speed, site-to-site remote access to Azure Government. According to Barracuda, it enables government organizations to deploy securely interconnected multi-zone network architectures. Its list price starts at $1,599.
"Government agencies are under the same push to reduce time and costs associated with bringing applications online, and at the same time must adhere to a strict set of security and compliance requirements," said Michael Hughes, senior vice president of worldwide sales at Barracuda Networks, in a prepared statement. "Integrating Barracuda's security products into Microsoft Azure Government simplifies this process for those customers and offers a dynamic, elastic infrastructure that scales with government agency needs."
Barracuda has previously launched its security offerings on the Microsoft Azure public cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS). Last year, it announced deeper integration with Azure. The company has also previously launched versions of its products on both Amazon Web Services and VMware's cloud.
The launch on Azure Government provides Barracuda and its partners with a foot in the door with government agencies and departments looking to shift their IT services to the cloud.
