Catbird today announced that its software-defined security suite is now fully certified for the Mirantis OpenStack open source cloud computing platform. Additionally, Catbird has joined the Mirantis Partner Program.

Chris Tamblyn, Catbird's senior vice president of business development and product management, told Talkin' Cloud that his company plans to focus on finding ways to work with OpenStack customers.

"We believe enterprises will look to adopt OpenStack through distributions with value-added bundling like Mirantis. These are natural partners for us. We are going to be very focused in our customer targeting which will allow us to focus on product feature/functionality where it matters most to those committed to the platform," he said.

Catbird initially announced it would add security policy automation for OpenStack with Catbird 6.0, its flagship cloud offering, last July. The Scotts Valley, California-based security and compliance solutions provider also said it planned to deliver "security policy automation for private and hybrid cloud environments."

Tamblyn added that the Catbird-Mirantis partnership could help his company further differentiate its solution while supporting the OpenStack community.

Catbird provides software-defined security for virtual infrastructures, while Mirantis is a pure-play OpenStack company. And together, Catbird and Mirantis could help OpenStack users protect their cloud resources.

Ronen Kofman, Mirantis' vice president of product management, noted that he believes "Catbird delivers a flexible platform to ensure that all OpenStack assets receive policy-defined protection from inception to retirement."

And as a result, Catbird provides OpenStack users with greater visibility and protection, Kofman said, that they cannot receive with perimeter-based security controls.
