CipherCloud must be putting its new venture capital investment money to good use already. The company just expanded its management team to include new sales and marketing executives.
Fresh off its big $30 million venture capital windfall, CipherCloud is barrelling ahead with the hiring of new sales and marketing executives to help drive the company forward. It's probably good timing, too, as during our last conversation with CipherCloud, they joked about essentially being little more than an executive skeleton crew.
Building out the management team was one of the key priorities on the executive team's to-do list when Andreessen Horowitz announced its multi-million dollar investment in the two-year-old cloud security company. CipherCloud has added Travis Patterson as senior vice president of worldwide sales. Previously, the company added Paige Leidig to the staff as senior vice presient. Leidig has now assumed the CMO role.
Patterson joins CipherCloud from Marble Cloud (formerly IronKey), where he was the vice president of sales and support. Leidig comes from SAP, where he was global vice president in the office of the CEO. Both report directly to CipherCloud CEO and founder, Pravin Kothari.
With a combination of direct and channel sales in its go-to-market strategy, the addition of a new SVP of worldwide sales could mean good things for CipherCloud channel partners. The executive team has been running fast over the last couple of years -- so fast that it has been focused on being a startup and getting its product to market. Chances are, the channel has not been its number one priority, but the addition of a new worldwide sales could alleviate some of the pressure on the rest of the team and give the new hire a chance to put more focus on the company's indirect sales channel. Only time will tell, of course.
That's not to say CipherCloud has neglected its channel partners by any means. It launched a cloud encryption partner program in September to make stronger connections to its partners. The company has also been busy updating its products and launching new ones -- including releasing content-aware encryption capabilities within CipherCloud Gateway 3.5 and launching the CipherCloud Database Gateway.
