Cloud virtualization and backup specialist Veeam Software has rolled out Veeam Backup Cloud Edition, a cloud-agnostic solution that supports 15 different types of public storage clouds including Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows AzureAmazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) S3Amazon GlacierRackspace (NYSE: RAX) and HP (NYSE: HPQ) Cloud (as well as providing support for additional clouds built on OpenStack). To prevent catastrophic data loss, the company packaged configurable encryption with bandwidth scheduling, compression, and job notifications into an one cloud solution. Here's the scoop.

Veeam Backup Cloud Edition gives IT administrators the ability to select the cloud provider of their choice and pay cloud usage costs separately, relieving any commitment or vendor lock-in to a particular cloud. This edition includes all of the functionality of Veeam Backup & Replication Enterprise and Standard editions. The key features of this edition are as follows:

  • Encrpytion -- Configure encrpytion up to AES 256-bit, which secures data in transmission and at the rest of the cloud.
  • Bandwidth scheduling -- Schedule limits to ensure bandwidth during working hours and control bandwidth in real time.
  • Compression -- Compress the size of backups to reduce transmission time and storage costs.
  • Job notifications -- Inform yourself of backups synchronized to the cloud through emailed reports.

"Many customers see offsite backup as a necessary component for their data protection and recovery strategy but stop short of actual implementation because they see acquiring and managing an offsite repository as too expensive and complicated," said Veeam Software President and CEO Ratmir Timashev. "Veeam Backup Cloud Edition helps to address these types of barriers to adoption of cloud technology by making it easier for their customers to copy backups to the cloud."

Veeam Backup Cloud Edition subscriptions are available in one-, two- or three-year licenses for new Veeam Backup & Replication customers with discounts for multi-year subscriptions.
