Cloud security startup Skyfence is offering channel partners a new cloud security solution that detects cloud application account take over and inappropriate data use activities.

The new solution called Skyfence Cloud Gateway integrates threat prevention, activity monitoring and compliance management to secure and prevent data theft on any cloud app, the company said.

To protect a cloud app, Skyfence leverages its Dynamic User Fingerprinting technology, which automatically analyzes network traffic to understand user activity. This is all done without having to directly access the application, Skyfence Sales Vice President Drew Schuil told Talkin' Cloud via email.

"The benefit to this technology is highly accurate detection of cloud application account take over and inappropriate data use activities," he said. "Customers are already inundated with alerts and noise, they want ease of use and accuracy."

Schuil said the company is "focused on working with partners to help their customers address cloud security challenges."

"Both in terms of fulfilling orders through the channel and working with channel partners to educate their customers on the Skyfence technology," he said. "In my previous experience at Imperva and elsewhere, a dedicated channel program has been a key to extending the sales footprint."

According to Schuil, "channel partners can leverage the Skyfence Cloud Gateway to open up a new annual subscription revenue stream."

"Cloud Application Protection is a new space and does not cannibalize existing security sales," he said. "Those partners that offer managed security service offerings will also be able to add cloud protection to their service offering."

Channel partners will be faced with "the rapidly evolving nature of cloud security" in 2014, Schuil pointed out. "They will need to keep abreast of new technologies and market developments to be able to advise their customers on what is available in the market," he said.

Skyfence is actively recruiting security-focused value-added resellers (VARs) that are used to selling data leakage protection (DLP), threat dection, activity monitoring and compliance solutions, Schuil said.

The company said it is selling the Skyfence Cloud Gateway as a cloud service or an on-premise appliance.
