Growth of Cloud Services Spells Opportunity for Channel Partners

As 2013 comes to a close, we look forward to the new evolution of technologies within the IT channel in the new year—to realize how far we’ve come and what we’ve learned, as well as understand where we’re going next. For those interested in capitalizing on the growing demand for cloud services, the forecast is looking cloudier by the day. There is a tremendous opportunity to capitalize on new endeavors and address the growing need for cloud enablement, education and migration solutions.

As industry analysts such as Gartner and IDC have evaluated, cloud computing is an important development driving the IT market. Now that Internet access has been deemed a basic human right by the United Nations, the possibilities around the Internet of Everything have expanded. Barriers have been broken and new opportunities continually are rising in cloud computing. But are we organizationally ready to expand beyond the basics of cloud? Have we fully and accurately defined the pure cloud ecosystem and revenue surrounding it?

IDC predicts that public IT cloud services will have reached $47.4 billion in 2013 and grow to more than $107 billion by the end of 2017. With growth of more than 23 percent, solution providers need to be prepared—for their own business and for their end user customers. It has become clear that the conversation has shifted from, “Should we use cloud services?” to, “How should we use cloud services?” This new way of thinking and expanded opportunities have reshaped the way we live, and cloud computing is at the forefront of the next wave of expansion.

Education and enablement practices are key to successfully evaluating and fully capitalizing on business opportunities in cloud computing. Solution providers who have an eye on the ever-changing forecast—who anticipate and capitalize on shifts—will continue to dance in the rain of cloud revenue, rather than fear the storm.
